Cynthia was able to begin her career after moving into New York and pursuing a career as fashion model. Her first modeling contract was working with Wihelmina Models. This led to her being placed on the cover Essence Magazine. Cynthia's Essence cover that was one of the best-selling in magazine history was also Susan Taylor's most-loved. Cynthia got her second cover soon after and set the scene for a lengthy career. Her next destination was Paris, and Milan. Here she was seen in the catwalks of Paris Fashion Week. Cynthia was able to move back to New York City after living in the United States for nearly a year. Her campaign comprised Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's. Editorials in magazines for Vogue, Glamour, Elle, Essence and Vanity Fair soon followed. Cynthia was selected by Naomi Campbell over Naomi Campbell to play opposite Sandra Bernhadt for the film, "Without You, I'm nothing."
